Top Ten Reasons

1. Learn from a leader in business education

For the sixth consecutive year, Bloomberg BusinessWeek has ranked the Lally School of Management at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as one of the nation's top 50 best undergraduate business programs in 2012. Our widely acknowledged academic excellence attracts highly accomplished faculty and students to our programs.

In addition, our specialty programs consistently gain national recognition, this year ranking #2 among all business schools in the U.S. in Corporate Strategy, #2 in Quantitative Methods, and #6 in Entrepreneurship.

2. Thrive in a small school culture with big school opportunities

We intentionally limit the size of our incoming class to provide our students lots of opportunities to interact with our faculty and advisors. In addition, our advisors are committed to every student’s academic and personal success.

Average class sizes of fewer than 25 mean faculty get to know students on an individual level.

3. Take advantage of attending a world-class university

In addition to pursuing a concentration within management, many undergraduates pursue minors in the Rensselaer School of Engineering; Science (including Computer Science and Information Technology and Web Science); Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; or Architecture.

Students also have the opportunity to obtain dual or double degrees; continue their studies with a combined degree option; pursue simultaneous B.S. and M.S. degrees; or complete the combined B.S./Juris Doctor (Law) degree.

4. Jump-start a career with excellent companies

Companies value the education our students receive. Recent employers of Lally School graduates include Bank of America, Bloomberg, Cisco Systems, Deliotte, Ernst & Young, ExxonMobil, FactSet Research, General Electric, LexisNexis, JP Morgan Chase, Johnson & Johnson, Momentive Performance Materials, NYSE Euronext, Procter & Gamble, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and The Hartford.

Lally graduates consistently earn higher starting salaries in the job market—approximately $10,000 more than the national average last year.

5. Prepare for great success with an extensive choice of business concentrations

Take your pick. Our Bachelor of Science in Business and Management program offers leading edge concentrations, similar to a major, across a broad spectrum of business areas: Accounting, Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management.

Students with multiple interests can choose two concentrations in the course of their studies.

6. Get the extra edge

Many Lally students obtain co-ops and internships that put them ahead, provide them with great work experience, and offer them networking, skill-building, and connections to future employment.

Lally students have had co-ops/internships at companies such as BAE Systems, Boeing, Greane Tree Technology, Hasbro, Hanover Insurance Group, Met Life, Target, and UBS.

7. Gain entrepreneurial skills

Lally School classes, events, and programs enable students to learn how a new business is born and how existing businesses innovate. Entrepreneurs and innovative executives work closely with our students, passing along the knowledge and strategy gained through their success.

The fully-endowed Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship at Lally is the focal point for scholarship and learning in entrepreneurship as well as a bridge to the Rensselaer Incubator and its Technology Park.

8. Prepare for the global marketplace

The highly international faculty at the Lally School is particularly adept at training individuals to address multiple business challenges on a global stage, incorporating their diverse perspectives into the classroom, and encouraging students to apply these principles and practices in study abroad programs and in interaction with classmates from across the globe.

With a variety of different study abroad opportunities, Lally School students gain international exposure and experiences in universities in countries like Australia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

9. Conduct research

Rensselaer has a commitment to groundbreaking research and provides undergraduates with the opportunity to work with faculty. This commitment enables students to work with internationally renowned professors as they pursue leading edge inquiry and investigation.

Lally School faculty actively involve students in their research, from collecting and analyzing data to presenting at major conferences, and publishing papers.

10. Connect with highly successful alumni/ae

Rennselaer alumni/ae have global reach and influence in business. They actively engage in campus activities and centers, closely mentor and coach students, and consistently help place students with excellent companies.

Lally alumni/ae are our biggest supporters, actively contributing to the success of the school and our students.
