Research and Publications

Professor Kumar’s research is in strategic management. His work focuses on two fundamental areas: (1) the scope of the firm and its boundaries, and (2) the organization and performance of alliances and acquisitions. Within these areas he has looked at issues such as how firms manage their product and geographic scope to maximize value, what factors affect the distribution of gains between partners in alliances, and why inter firm collaborations tend to be unstable. His recent work examines the impact of strategy on innovation, and adopts a behavioral approach to explaining corporate strategic decisions.
