2012 Lally School Student Investment Competition

Student teams competed in the first annual Student Managed Fund Equities Research Competition, sponsored by the Lally School of Management & Technology’s Center for Financial Studies (CFS) and Student Managed Fund.
The event provides a platform for students interested in the investment field. Each team conducted in-depth research on a publicly traded company, submitted a written report, and presented their findings to a panel of judges. The panel served as an investment committee that included Rensselaer alumni and faculty.

The students were guided by co-directors of CFS – Aparna Gupta, associate professor of quantitative finance, and John L. Teall, Jackson Tai ’72 professor in practice, both from the Lally School.
Distinguished judges included:
- Mr. William H. Abrams ’58, a Rensselaer alumnus of the School of Engineering, a former member of the New York Stock Exchange, and currently general partner of TraderEX.
- Dr. Joseph Pimbley ’80, Rensselaer alumnus of the School of Engineering, a financial consultant, and a former Rensselaer assistant professor.
- Mr. Steve Silberstein ’76, Rensselaer alumnus and advisory council member of the Lally School, and most recently, the chief information officer for Chi-X Global.
