About The Lally School of Management & Technology

The Lally School of Management & Technology, founded in 1963, is the business school of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Established in 1824, Rensselaer is the oldest technological university in the U.S. and boasts world-class research facilities.  Since 2000, Rensselaer has opened state-of-the art centers in Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, and Experimental Media and Performing Arts, as well as a new fitness center and a Campus Athletic Village opening in Fall 2009.

Lally is dedicated to developing technically sophisticated business leaders who can guide organizations in integrating technology for new products, new markets and new systems.  Building on RPI’s superb facilities and its leadership in science and engineering, Lally’s programs focus on the strategic management of technology and on creating value through innovation and entrepreneurship.

We believe that creative thinkers who can understand and manage new technologies will be the leaders of tomorrow’s business and creators of sustainable competitive advantage.  They will be the leaders who will change the world.

Lally’s dedication to innovation starts with our unique curriculum.  Our cross-disciplinary program uses an experiential approach to help students develop a strategic managerial framework to solve problems.  Small classes and an international student body create a personalized, interactive classroom experience, preparing students for the teamwork needed to succeed in a 21st century global business environment.

Located in New York’s Tech Valley, Lally offers students experience outside the classroom through on-campus and area resources such as the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship, the RPI Incubator (the first on-campus business incubator in the U.S.) and Rensselaer Technology Park.  Lally also offers a growing portfolio of collaborative programs with enterprises and academic institutions in the Indian sub-continent, China, Europe, and the Middle East.

In addition, Lally graduates become part of the network of more than 85,000 successful RPI alumni worldwide.

"I am confident that my gift will enable the school to win recognition as one of the premier MBA programs in the nation."  - Kenneth T. Lally

Kenneth T. and Thelma P. LallyKT Lally

The Lally School of Management & Technology was named after Rensselaer trustee and philanthropist Kenneth T. Lally and his wife, Thelma P. Lally.  Mr. Lally was an important member of the Rensselaer community for almost 40 years.  As a business leader, an entrepreneur, and a trusted advisor, Mr. Lally’s impact on Rensselaer was invaluable, and he established a lasting legacy in management education.  A successful entrepreneur who saved the historic W.& L.E Gurley Company (now Gurley Precision Instrument Co.), Mr. Lally knew the challenge of managing a technological venture.  To help the management school gain national prominence, the Lallys generously donated of $15 million, which was, at the time, the largest single gift in Rensselaer's history.  To honor the benefactors and to properly reflect the school's unique focus, the school became the Kenneth T. and Thelma P. Lally School of Management & Technology. "I am confident,” said Lally, “that my gift will enable the school to win recognition as one of the premier MBA programs in the nation.”
